Passion for a cause

I have started and deleted and mused about writing different blog posts on a fairly regular occasion since my last post, a whole 2 months ago! O M G! I'm sorry it has been that long....to be honest there hasn't been much to write about for a while, we have been dealing with a whole lotta unnecessary stress, four feet firmly on the ground! Ha! More like four feet up in the air, just hanging on the word of gospel that we currently live by. Ugghhh!

Many of you already know what's going on, and for those who don't, well we'll tell you when we know, how about that?! Stay tuned. For today, I want to share with you a couple of causes close to my heart, both vastly different, although both equally important.

Numero uno: my gorgeous and famous sister is taking her one women play A Solitary Choice to the Kansas Fringe, this is a BIG deal, it will be the first Australian production performed at the Kansas City Fringe, what an honour!

If you can pledge a little or a lot, maybe, to help Tam and director Mik with a successful production in Kansas that would be amazing! I would be so touched, as would they. Follow this link: A Solitary Choice_Kansas_USA to help them achieve their goal and to find out more.

Numero due: one of my all time favourite Aussie actors Samuel Johnson of Secret Life of Us, Rush and much more, it riding around Australia on a unicycle to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. A unicycle! I kid you not! And....he is coming to Halls Creek on the 1st of May. I'll let you read the full story here because, I'm not as good at explaining succinctly!

The big exciting news is, we (HCVC staff) are organising a smallish event for when he is in town, and hoping to dare him to do something crazy...still working out the finer details...
I am so excited to be getting involved in something I feel so strongly about supporting and getting to meet, hopefully (he wont really have a choice)Samuel Johnson himself.

Honestly, on a personal level, having a project I'm passionate about has improved my mood and state of mind 10 fold, these past few months I have felt a little lost and uninspired.

I didn't start out this post purely to get money out of you, I really just wanted to share two projects I'm truly excited about. Of course I will keep you updated on both, especially the photo of me with Mr Unicycle himself!

Share the word and the love. I shall endeavour to keep the length between posts shorter in the future.

Now off to enjoy my bf's risotto, mmmmmm...yum!

7 Day Cleanse

so, we have started a 7 Day Liver Cleanse over here at Dinky Donga. for many reasons, mostly for health and general wellness, but also because i need a break, or my body needs a break from the rather tasty, sugar, alcoholic beverages etc that I have been consuming with gusto in the last few months.

coffee and cake - my love!

generally i think we eat very well, my biggest misgivings being chocolate, tea, coffee and a gin and tonic at the end of a long hot day, or a crisp cool wine (or 2), just writing those words makes my mouth water.

ahh alcohol
i have never been one to diet, this is only the third CLEANSE i have ever attempted in my life, i am a believer of everything In moderation, and that you only live once, so make the most of this life and enjoy good wholesome, tasty food, with a slice of devils food cake thrown in occasionally as a treat.

this is what i have been enjoying - on the odd occasion

i have to admit, i am struggling, i'm hungry, unsatisfied, headachy, tired and my hands are shaking from the caffeine withdrawals. i feel so lucky that i have the option to make this choice though, that i can willingly decide that this week is cleanse week, but as off Friday week, 5 and a half days (no i am not counting), i'll be able to eat my favourite foods once again. when i look around me, poverty is everywhere, many kids out here are lucky to get one meal a day, and even then i might just be a massive bowl of instant mash. no nutrients there. so while i'm struggling, i'm also feeling so humbled and grateful for all that we have.

veg and fruit galore

there you have it, that's what's going on this week with us. i know i can do it, but writing it down makes me even more resolved to just get through the week and i know we will feel better for it.

first nights dinner

ps. this is my first time posting from the blogger app, so not sure how the formatting will look, what a great app though if it does work. :)

pps. i hope you are well, are you doing any cleanses at the moment? have you in the past?

wish i was still doing this

Some scenes - Tokyo 2013

i had big plans, of photos chronicling my week in tokyo, and all that we did, but there are so many photos, so many memories, it is so hard to narrow them down to just a few...one day soon I might make them into some fancy slide show I can load up onto here, maybe...for now, here are a few scenes.

she is so curious about everything.

the old and the new. tokyo palace grounds with tokyo city in the background.

signs of spring
ghibli museum

hear no evil, speak no evil and see no evil (nikko)

so many varieties of seaweed, mind blown at every turn.
once again tokyo and japan wowed me every day, with new sights, sounds and tastes. there is so much to be said for the country and the people, i can't wait to visit again, and i already have plans to see more of the country. for now i shall continue to enjoy munching on green tea kitkats and drinking from my handmade tea cup.

over and out xx

Happy (belated) Valentines Day

Happy belated Valentines to you.

This painting symbolises Love and home to me, it was given to us 4 years ago, by acclaimed artist Robert McCaffrey, a dear friend from Kondinin days, he called it 'Sacred Harvest'. When he gave it too us, he made us promise to cut it in half if we ever broke up....

To this day it has come with us wherever we have moved, it is one of the first things we find a place for in our new home, it always hangs in our bedroom.

I think and hope this painting will stay intact for many many years to come. Thank you Robert McCaffrey, for all that you gave us.

How was your Valentines day? xx

New Years Resolutions

I wanted to make a list of achievable resolutions for 2013 and I thought putting them on here would hold me much more accountable!!

Here goes:

Practise/Practice kindness

Laugh more

Conquer my fears, in directly or indirectly...

Make an effort everyday to be a better person

Stop making excuses and just go for it!

Travel more

Really learn how to take great photos, I have the camera, now I just need to practice

Make time to walk everyday, not purely for exercise (this is what I have to tell myself), but to unwind,  and enjoy time with my B

This is my list, to me each item is important.

I have a great feeling about 2013, some exciting things in the works...

What is on your list?

Visitors in the silly season!

We have had a MASSIVE week, Halls Creek pulled out all the stops to ensure mother had an exciting memorable visit!

There most certainly were some exciting moments though, a Bungle flight, through past some stunning thunderstorms, a visit to the Meteorology centre, the Duncan Road and Christmas AND birthday celebrations! This post is mainly a photo post, to chronicle Mum's visit...

Here goes:

The Ord River in flow
We were so fortunate to fly over the Bungles JUST after a storm had been through, there was water everywhere and waterfalls flowing with gusto. This is a very rare sight, the next day this water had disappeared into the ground.

Waterfalls

Water shine, ice age palms

Our rather lovely pilot

Post flight/pre downpour exhilaration
Christmas day was rather lovely, and beautifully paced, we enjoyed many presents, great food, and some fabulous company.
The decorating of our desert rose continued right through the day, I couldn't have been happier with my choice of tree this year.

Mother, daughter Christmas photo

Boxing day, we all headed to the met centre for a tour  and the obligatory 'letting off' of the weather balloon by the guest of honour...

See, Halls Creek can be exciting!

Blue skies for the rest of the month! (no lie!)
Post met centre, we bundled into a friend's 4WD hilux and took to the Duncan Road for some tourist adventures....

Palm Springs water hole

I believe she was holding onto the spinifex for dear life, the mud was slippery...

Sawpit Gorge

Our trusty speed, capable, but oh so squishy!

China Wall, with water, yay for the wet!

Spinifex, red rocks, yellow wattle and a mother!

Birthday gifts!

What fun!

Now we are back to normal life, with the approach of the New Year, (can you believe it's almost 2013!?) thoughts are geared towards, what will happen in the next year, where will we move to next, when will we move, what is in store for us this year, and most importantly, what do we, as individuals want out of the coming year? Though I am not much for new years resolutions, I feel that this year I have a growing list, which I intend to share in the coming days...

Wishing you all a wonderful, happy, prosperous, New Year! Be safe.
xoxo
