Visitors in the silly season!

We have had a MASSIVE week, Halls Creek pulled out all the stops to ensure mother had an exciting memorable visit!

There most certainly were some exciting moments though, a Bungle flight, through past some stunning thunderstorms, a visit to the Meteorology centre, the Duncan Road and Christmas AND birthday celebrations! This post is mainly a photo post, to chronicle Mum's visit...

Here goes:

The Ord River in flow
We were so fortunate to fly over the Bungles JUST after a storm had been through, there was water everywhere and waterfalls flowing with gusto. This is a very rare sight, the next day this water had disappeared into the ground.

Christmas day was rather lovely, and beautifully paced, we enjoyed many presents, great food, and some fabulous company.
The decorating of our desert rose continued right through the day, I couldn't have been happier with my choice of tree this year.

Mother, daughter Christmas photo

Boxing day, we all headed to the met centre for a tour  and the obligatory 'letting off' of the weather balloon by the guest of honour...

See, Halls Creek can be exciting!

Blue skies for the rest of the month! (no lie!)
Post met centre, we bundled into a friend's 4WD hilux and took to the Duncan Road for some tourist adventures....

Palm Springs water hole

I believe she was holding onto the spinifex for dear life, the mud was slippery...

Sawpit Gorge

Our trusty speed, capable, but oh so squishy!

China Wall, with water, yay for the wet!

Spinifex, red rocks, yellow wattle and a mother!

Birthday gifts!

What fun!

Now we are back to normal life, with the approach of the New Year, (can you believe it's almost 2013!?) thoughts are geared towards, what will happen in the next year, where will we move to next, when will we move, what is in store for us this year, and most importantly, what do we, as individuals want out of the coming year? Though I am not much for new years resolutions, I feel that this year I have a growing list, which I intend to share in the coming days...

Wishing you all a wonderful, happy, prosperous, New Year! Be safe.

Scenes

Two things:

Firstly: I took a drive to Kununurra last week for a dentist appointment...it was LONG! The thing about this is that it was the first time I had left Halls Creek in 3 MONTHS! This I find unbelievable. It was thorougly enjoyable to get away and spend some time in real shops with REAL GOOD coffee.

Ducklings in the evening light.

Skinny Boab!

Large Boab

Cattle - EVERYHWERE on the roads

What a MAN!
Secondly; B and I were talking this morning, we realised it has been 6 years since he has spent a Christmas at home and 5 years for me!!!!! I also find this unbelievable! Last year we had his family stay and this year we will have my mother staying, these things make Christmas much more festive, than just us....but we both miss Christmas' in Adelaide terribly, I have all my fingers and toes crossed for a Christmas in Adelaide for us BOTH next year.

Here are some Christmas scenes. Enjoy.

In an effort to fight the norm, and the fake tree (no offence to those who prefer them), our Christmas tree this year is a Desert Rose, apt for where we are.
This is the first year without you, Skipbo, we love and miss you like you wouldn't believe. I hope you are super happy up in doggy heaven. Never to be forgotten, with us always. Love.

LOVE

It has been REALLY reaining most days this week, stunning.
That is all for now/ May the days leading up to Christmas be stress free for you.

Enjoy this time with your loved ones. xx

Starting to feel a little like Christmas

My oh my it's been a HOT week! and a very busy one, with Christmas fast approaching it has been great to have the weekend to start to get ready for it, shopping, wrapping, writing and posting are all on the agenda for the next couple of days....

This is what I wish was happening right now...

Dinky Donga is also starting to get her Christmas on, I really wanted a funky cardboard tree from Ikea, however with posting and a dodgy online store (sorry Ikea, I really do love you, but you have to get with the times man!), I was unable to purchase one. Now I am looking down the road of a fake tree and that just makes me cringe, luckily I'm off to Kunus (aka Kununurra, big smoke) this week for a dreaded dentist appointment, so I shall go in search of a real tree, if not a fur maybe something else that I can decorate to my hearts content!! In the meantime, I have started to hang Christmas decorations around, I LOVE this time of year!!

On the decoration front, I have started to make a few crochet decorations using the limited yarn I have at the moment to send to friends and family...I love the calm that I feel when I sit and crochet, it relaxes me and I feel so PRODUCTIVE!

Meet Horatio

Yesterday Halls Creek celebrated Christmas with a Christmas float parade, decked out trucks and hilux utes anyone??

I braved the scorching temps and went into town to grab a few pics and see just how well Halls Creek celebrates Christmas...In true HC style, the parade was at least an hour late in getting started, not that seemed to deter anyone, kids everywhere were armed with plastic bags full of water bombs ready to pelt at the unsuspecting/suspecting (some were smart and bought a brollie) float riders. Unfortunately Fortunately (hehe) the firies had a heads up and were armed with super big hoses to get their own back!! It was a rather charming experience and the kids seem to love it, it is for them after all!

Lastly, I am sure you are sick of seeing pics of my Cassia tree, but I had to share another, this tree has been flowering for weeks and weeks now with no sign of letting up any time soon, everything else around it is starting to shrivel as the days without rain grow, but the Cassia continues to spread joy with her bright yellow glow! Whenever I go outside or walk up to the house I see her and smile, how could you not when faced with such bright beauty!!! She looks so funny next to Dinky Donga, but I am so grateful to whoever planted her in our garden.

Well, I must be off, have to prepare myself for an evening of playing rescue dummy for lifeguard re-quals at the pool! Fun times!!!

How are your Christmas preparations going? Where do you find joy?

Peace

Celebrations!

We are celebrating today, celebrating 29 years in fact!

Maybe almost in his 30's but B is still a boy at heart....

Lego Block Cake

Though a birthday is a time of celebration, when you are such a distance from family and friends it brings conflicting feelings and memories of years gone by. To our families, we are thankful that you support us in all we do, and we wish you were here with us in sharing this day. Life has led us to this far away place, and we are grateful for what we have as we celebrate another year and many many more to come, love, laughter and cake!

Wishing...
Thank you all for journeying with us in our hearts.
Our Cassia continues to fill our garden with droplets of gold
Happy Birthday B! May there be many more celebrations to come, and may the coming years bring everything that you wish for. MWA

Australia's China Wall

China Wall is one of the major destinations for tourists here in Halls Creek, it is located 6km out of town on the Duncan Road. Recently we braved the unsealed road in Macci and went for a drive to see what all the fuss was about. I think we were both blown away at how stunning it is, a quartz grain that at this particular point makes a rather bold statement as it appears out of the ground. Here are a few iPhone shots...

More can be found about this spectacular natural wonder here

Things have been quite over here, we seem to have fallen into a groove of work, eat, sleep, repeat. I think it's the intense heat, nowhere in the house is particularly comfortable, at any time of day or night even with aircon rumbling away. We had a little rain last night and more is forecast  let's hope we get it and it refreshes us.

Here are a few things:

I found farmers union at the cafe, no-one else seemed to understand my excitement, but B and I thoroughly enjoyed a taste of home.

My camera arrived!!!! Yes, it is stunning and sexy and beautiful to use,. I have a long way to go to learn to use it to it's best abilities and take crystal clear pics. Working on it...here are a couple I have taken with it so far:

PS Isn't this the biggest mango EVER! Kununurra have experienced a stellar crop of huge juicy fruit this year, yummo!

That's all for now, thinking of you all and dreaming of a holiday...

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change...
