Across the middle

From Ceduna to Norseman, and onto Brookton here are some photos of our travels. Today we sit and relax, wash (Macchi, the car included) and fold, and generally unwind in readiness for the next leg of our journey. We are very fortunate to be able to stay at Madison Square (our old house) in Brookton for as long as we need. It has been lovely, and beautiful, the fields of brown have been transformed into green (more on that later).

A double rainbow, the middle day was the longest and the wettest, but made for interesting driving.

Nundroo Roadhouse, we did not stop here, except to take this photo as frankly the place scares me just a little...Just for you Jem!

A gigantic road train, which took up the whole road.

Fuelling up in the middle of know where, quite literally!

We had a sneaky 60L drum in the trailer, we gave up on this method of transferring later on and just attached the hose directly to the car. Great way to save fuel costs at the WA/SA boarder.

Beautiful storms building on the horizon.

Delirium.

Fuelling up!

So much endless road, so uniquely Australian.

B and a friendly (vicious) magpie have a moment over refuelling.

Breakfast in Norseman.

Thick fog leaving Norseman - quite spectacular. The day turned out to be perfect with crystal blue skies.

More road....

Green fields of the wheatbelt, they have had almost no rain, but the wheat struggles through and transforms this barren land.

The view from our friends house (where we crashed for our first night in Brookton) Winter here is quite mild, with beautiful clear days.

That's all for now, tomorrow we begin our journey through the red dust of central WA to our final destination, but for now, I am signing off to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympic games.

The first leg...

With trailer and car laden, we headed off towards Ceduna this morning, waving goodbye to B's mum, we left the cloudy confines of Stirling and headed for the vast expanses that make up Northern South Australia.

This is my first experience driving across to the West at this time of year, it is a truly beautiful sight, green as far as the eye can see, with the spring flowers starting to show their faces in this mild weather. It is a pleasure to drive in such conditions.

The day was mostly uneventful, we were faced with a feisty head wind, and the car struggled initially with the weight, however we managed to get our fuel consumption under control, considering the dodgy/questionable aerodynamics of the trailer.

We consumed copious amounts of rice crackers, soy crisps and fruit, while singing along to the 101 Driving Songs (well I sang, B occasionally hummed a tune!) and discussing the effects of gout, and other medical issues. Making it to Ceduna in time for a dose of Home and Away, a tasty chicken wrap and a cup of the finest tea, in just under 10 hours.

Over all, a fairly enjoyable day, minus the experience at the concrete crapper (bit yuck!). Looking forward to a restful sleep tonight, ready for another day of excitement tomorrow...

The first steps...

So, it begins! The trailer is packed, the car is overflowing and the snacks are ready. Tomorrow morning we start our adventure of a lifetime, to seek our fortunes on the other side of the country!

B and I are making our way across Australia, via Brookton, WA, with a final destination in Broome WA. B a pilot and I a teacher hope to find our place in the world, and plant our "four feet firmly on the ground".
