Last day of VACATION!

Sunday was our last OFFICIAL day of holidaying as B today started working for one of the larger GA (General Aviation) companies in Broome. We wont be staying in Broome unfortunately, instead we will be moving to Halls Creek (too many kms in land for me to count). For the next couple of weeks however we will be staying in Broome while B get acquainted with the company.

Long story short, we thought we would do something nice on Sunday to celebrate the future...

Broome Port, the sea was particularly beautiful, I just had to get a photo.

We decided that a meal at Zander's (a rather posh restaurant on Cable Beach) was in order. B had some Thai veggie thingami.

I went for the sweet option - OBVIOUSLY! and NO I did not have that ridiculous iced chocolate as well, that was all B!

I have been really wanting to see something here since I saw 'Bran Nue Dae'

We were all set for a great night, seated in our deckchairs waiting for the movie to start!
Then, we were sadly told that a mechanical part of the projector was broken! Sad face.

However, we will go again, and I am determined that we WILL see something from beginning to end. No matter, it was an exciting half and hour. Such a great place, if you come visit us in Broome I can guarantee a visit, I can not however, guarantee an actual movie screening!!!

Signing off for now, a full week of work for us both awaits! xo

A day in the life

Hi there,
Here is a bit of a break down of what has been happening over the last week...its been rather quiet and uneventful on the work front for me, although B has managed to score himself a sweet job...well, a job, with a great company, not actually sure where or when he is starting. So that's all I'm going to write on the matter for now.
The lovely little sicklies that I work with gave me a blocked sinuses this week, so it has been ideal not having any work, and I have been able to concentrate on enjoying the scenery and catching some rays, as the following photos show.

Carnavon Street, Broome (the main drag)

Our Town Beach and a gull...

What a way to retire!

When you wait and wait and wait for a call, this is what you must practice.

We upgraded the bed, now we have a complete ensemble, in the tent. We get many comments from passers by...

"Our pool is heated!" I mean really, in this weather?!?! (incidentally, its's a loverly pool to swim in)

Have been doing quite a bit of this...Can't complain!

Macchi needed a wash (badly) Looking much brighter now.

I have enjoyed chatting to the bird life, although the gull didn't like the pear I gave it.

We have had to dive into the trailer several times, finally today we found some real cutlery - such novelty, it's a bit of effort.

More bird life scavenging our neighbours camp ground.

Finishing off today with a walk along cable beach.

I'm back to work tomorrow, and a few days next week, so it appears my holiday is over, I have thoroughly enjoyed it; also throwing in quite a lot of reading, drinks and cards with our Belgium neighbours, breakfast pancakes with them, and 'roll starting' the other neighbours 4WD this morning.
Forever being entertained by all around us.

So, that is but a taste of our daily lives...hoping to be able to share some of these activities with you all in person at some time or other...

xx

Beaches and Ice cream

It's been a busy week for me, Monday morning my phone vibrated and buzzed at 730am with an unknown number, it was one of the local primary schools, after a relief teachers assistant for the day (not actually teaching, but just helping the teacher out and working with students that may require extra support - just to clarify). The week continued in a similar manner with only Wednesday call free. By the end of the week I was knackered although I can't deny it's good to be working and starting to meet people here.

We did manage some beach time however over the weekend, with a visit to Cable Beach, about a 10min drive from where we are staying. It's quite spectacular. Here are some pics.

We stayed and watch the sunset, it was just beautiful, photos don't do it justice.

A couple of nights later, we decided to brave the very low tide 0.81m and try and find the flying boat wrecks off town beach (our beach). Apparently there are air-plane wrecks from World War II when Japan bombed the area, and according to the information guides they are visible at such low tides...Well, we didn't see any boat wrecks, however we did come across some interesting creatures as we walked along the bottom of the ocean.

I think this guy had gone to a better place... :(

Hermit crabs everywhere, some with classy houses.

Looking back to the shore line.

Both of us have been very wary about swimming or even touching the sea water, with talk of crocs and stingers, however, apparently this is the safest time of year, and lots of people swim. Anxiety made for a hilarious walk along the ocean floor, with heads bowed and eyes peeled for any sign of nasty sea creatures. The worst we saw were bright green worms (harmless I believe).

So, that is where we are at. This weekend has been quite uneventful, other than discovering a million little ants under our mattress this morning. Tent living, even though this is luxury tent living, is starting to wear us both thin, and we are looking forward to making a move ASAP (fingers and toes crossed).

Signing off for now, to go and lie by the beach for a little afternoon sun! Adieu xx

Living the Broome Time

So, after driving 4790km (a 'precise' B estimate!) it was with a huge sigh of relief that our chosen caravan park had just one powered site left in a little secluded corner.
Fortunately as, we had slept in the car the previous night we were much closer to Broome, which meant we arrived about mid-day....It took us a good TWO hours to set up the monstrosity (our tent). She sits quite nicely nestled in the trees don't you think?

After we had settled into our tent, and had a massive 14 hours sleep - we were so zonked from the drive and the sleepless night in the car - we took ourselves out to have a look around the streets of Broome, stopping in at the real estate agents on our way...unfortunately it appears this is all we can afford!
This is our new house - we WISH!

While we were out on the town, B scored himself a job with the circus! (He wishes!)
B's new work vehicle!

The first two nights of our stay we had some wonderful neighbours, Chris and Peter were travelling through from Vic, and we had great chats with them, Chris happened to be a teacher, as fate would have it he had sat an entrance exam for a cadet-ship with Qantas when he finished school, was unsuccessful, but was accepted into teaching. He was full of enthusiasm for us both and what we were doing.

Examining maps of Northern WA

The night before the full moon, I plan to purchase a good digital SLR camera over the next few months so that I can get some clear shots of Staircase to the Moon, which happens once a month.

Ahh, the joys of resume writing!
I'd say we have quite the set up, everything you need, sitting outside working on the laptop is quite novel and quite lovely.

A peek of our rather lavish living conditions.

Really I have no complaints, this place is beautiful, peaceful, exciting, interesting, warm, relaxing etc etc etc. As B said the other day "How can you be grumpy in paradise?"
As for work, I am hoping that I will pick up some relief work quite quickly, however, there are several other options, in administration that I could go for as well. As I wait for my documents to arrive, I am happy to continue this rather gorgeous vacation.

Look out for my next post, beachs, sunsets and LOW tides.

Up through the RED centre of Western Australia

After taking a relaxing and rejuvenating 2 days rest in Brookton, we headed North bound for Meekatharra on Sunday.

Of course we had to stock up on supplies before we left, but we were running a tad low on space, so the car looked something like this...

The drive was mostly uneventful, we didn't hit any wild life, or passing vehicles, although it was a close shave with this monster that took up almost the whole road!

Meekatharra, the middle of Western Australia, and the middle of nowhere!  Coincidentally, CAS run a pool out here, that B was possibly going to run at one point...thank god that never eventuated!!

No, we didn't stay here, but this is the general feel that Meeka exuded.

Huge trucks!

WHITE feet, RED dirt @ Newman, WA

Newman was a huge eye-opener for me, a small town built from mining money in the middle of desert and various mine sites. Miners were everywhere in their big flash cars and work attire. The streets were all brand new, and sparkling, it had a pop-up feel to the place, like it had just appeared out of the ground! Quite impressive, and quite wasteful...that's the mining industry I guess.

Leaving the Newman area, in the Shire of Ashburton the countryside became quite beautiful.

Dusk, a fuel stop on our way to South Hedland.

Peacocks roaming the petrol station at Sandfire, this was day six of the drive and we had had no sleep the night before in the car just outside South Hedland. Sandfire road house was a welcome stop, and a beautiful one, we sat and watched the peacocks and recuperating in the slightly tropical air.

I would recommend a stop at Sandfire for any travellers through these parts.

We made it! What a feeling!!! I'm hoping not to have to do this trip again in a hurry, however it was an amazing experience.
