After taking a relaxing and rejuvenating 2 days rest in Brookton, we headed North bound for Meekatharra on Sunday.
Of course we had to stock up on supplies before we left, but we were running a tad low on space, so the car looked something like this...
The drive was mostly uneventful, we didn't hit any wild life, or passing vehicles, although it was a close shave with this monster that took up almost the whole road!

Meekatharra, the middle of Western Australia, and the middle of nowhere! Coincidentally, CAS run a pool out here, that B was possibly going to run at one point...thank god that never eventuated!! |
|
No, we didn't stay here, but this is the general feel that Meeka exuded. |

Huge trucks! |

WHITE feet, RED dirt @ Newman, WA
|
Newman was a huge eye-opener for me, a small town built from mining money in the middle of desert and various mine sites. Miners were everywhere in their big flash cars and work attire. The streets were all brand new, and sparkling, it had a pop-up feel to the place, like it had just appeared out of the ground! Quite impressive, and quite wasteful...that's the mining industry I guess.

Leaving the Newman area, in the Shire of Ashburton the countryside became quite beautiful.

Dusk, a fuel stop on our way to South Hedland.
|
|
Peacocks roaming the petrol station at Sandfire, this was day six of the drive and we had had no sleep the night before in the car just outside South Hedland. Sandfire road house was a welcome stop, and a beautiful one, we sat and watched the peacocks and recuperating in the slightly tropical air. |
|
I would recommend a stop at Sandfire for any travellers through these parts.

We made it! What a feeling!!! I'm hoping not to have to do this trip again in a hurry, however it was an amazing experience.
